PRE-K and Kindergarten
PRE-KG and Kindergarten
Through our holistic, inclusive and future-focused education, we inspire young learners to be curious, creative and confident.
Early childhood education is a crucial stage that lays the foundation for lifelong learning. The ISL Pre-KG and Kindergarten curriculum is designed to prepare children for their transition to Elementary School by encouraging them to exercise their gross- and fine-motor skills and to develop their unique capacities. By integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and Art and Design into our Units of Inquiry, pre-schoolers develop early problem solving, creativity, and self-awareness competencies in an engaging, hands-on way. This blended approach ensures children acquire cognitive, motor, and social skills while fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and an entrepreneurial mindset from a young age.

+ Early Learning through Structure and Exploration
The ISL curriculum focuses on five key learning areas:
Literacy: Developing vocabulary, storytelling, and phonemic awareness.
Early Mathematics: Learning numbers, shapes, and spatial awareness.
Science: Understanding the environment, nature, and early science concepts.
Motor Skills: Enhancing coordination, balance, and fine motor skills.
Artistic Expression: Encouraging creativity through drawing, painting, dance and music.
+ STEM: Hands-on learning and exploration
ISL STEM education in Pre-KG and Kindergarten focuses on experiential learning through play-based activities.
STEM skills activities include:
Science: Observing nature, conducting simple experiments (e.g., mixing colors, floating and sinking).
Technology: Engaging with age-appropriate digital tools, and interactive learning apps.
Engineering: Building structures with blocks, LEGO, or recycled materials.
Mathematics: Exploring patterns, puzzles, and number games.
+ United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) in Early Education
To prepare children for a sustainable future, integrating the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into early education helps nurture responsible, environmentally aware, and compassionate individuals. While kindergarten students may not fully grasp the complexities of global issues, they can learn sustainable habits through simple engaging activities such as:
SDG 6: Clean Water & Sanitation – Encouraging handwashing, water conservation, and hygiene habits.
SDG 13: Climate Action – Teaching children about caring for nature through gardening and recycling activities.
SDG 15: Life on Land – Introducing children to trees, animals, and biodiversity through nature walks and storytelling.
+ Extension Activities
To ensure that ISL pre-schoolers are exposed to a wide range of learning disciplines we include the following learning areas in our Pre-KG and Kindergarten curriculum:
Art: Through a range of activities using paints, pencils, modelling clay and recyclable materials, ISL pre-schoolers let their imaginations run wild as they design and create wonderful works of art that link to real world challenges and their lived experiences.
Sports: Physical development is a key learning area of this stage of our students’ educational journeys. Physical education lessons include learning a range of activities such as ball skills, games which require the honing of their gross motor skills and team sports.
Drama: Learning through play and imagination are activities that form the foundation of many of the lessons in the Pre-KG and Kindergarten classes. Students are inspired to dress up and take on roles such as doctors, engineers, scientists and chefs. They develop their confidence and their language skills alongside their acting talents!
